I'm not the biggest fan of the 534, as it has bushings instead of bearings and was the start of Skil cutting corners, but it was still fun to restore none the less. I will restore almost any power tool as long as it has life left in it, it a decent brand and I know that it will last some good work moving forward.

Compared to a newer DeWalt, Bosch or Skil wormdrive, they are heavier, slower and most likely have more primitive safety features, but with that said, these saws were over engineered and constructed from materials which are meant to last someone's lifetime and then end up in the hands of someone like me for another lifetime.įrom my personal experience, I can't say the same for newer saws, and because of the materials they are constructed from, full restoration 60~70 years from now probably wouldn't be possible like it is from the Skil's from the 40's.
